Our verdict on GBets: GBets review for South African punters

GBets is a licensed South African bookmaker that has been taking bets online since 2014 and is the betting arm of the Goldrush group. It holds a Western Cape licence, and its footer also lists a Mpumalanga licence. It offers live betting, cash out and a bet builder, and runs a busy list of soccer, tennis, cricket and basketball promotions. The weak points are paperwork and service: the welcome offer is described differently on two of its own pages, several phone numbers appear across the site, and recent HelloPeter reviews are mostly negative with no visible company replies. It is a reasonable second account for promo hunters, but read every set of terms before you deposit.

The sportsbook covers the sports most South Africans bet on: football, rugby, cricket, tennis, golf and basketball, plus Formula 1. GBets also sells Lucky Numbers (including UK49s Teatime), Betgames, slots, crash games such as Aviator and virtual sports. GBets does not list horse racing on its sports pages, and there is no live streaming.

Beyond the R50 free bet for new customers, GBets advertises up to 10% weekly cashback paid twice a week, a 2 Up Early Payout on soccer, a 600% Multi Soccer Bonus, a 3-Goal Shield refund and sport-specific offers for tennis, cricket and the NBA. Several of these pages contradict themselves, so treat the full terms as the deciding wording.

GBets takes card, Ozow, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay and voucher deposits, and says withdrawals are paid within 24 hours once funds are confirmed. Two house rules deserve attention before you sign up: every deposit must be bet once at odds of 1.50 or higher before you can withdraw it, and an account left dormant for 12 months can have its balance reset to zero.

We rate every bookmaker with the same nine-category model. For this GBets review we used GBets’ own website, including its general terms and conditions, promotion pages and promotion terms, banking page, FAQs, contact page, store locator and responsible gaming pages. Is GBets legit? Licensing and safety

Yes, GBets is a legal, licensed bookmaker. The site footer states that “Gbets is licensed by the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board” and gives licence number 10179096-014, with a date of issue of 25 November 2025. The footer also lists a second licence from Mpumalanga, number 9-2-1-09553. The Western Cape board’s own list of licence holders includes Dymanex (Pty) Ltd among its bookmakers.

The operator is Dymanex (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2012-121-966-07. Its contact page lists an address at 66 Ontdekkers & Ruhama Rd, Roodepoort. The footer also shows an address in Parow and the phone number 021 480 7400, but the GBets terms give 021 480 7400 as the Western Cape board’s number, so treat that line as the regulator’s details rather than a GBets contact.

Who owns GBets?

GBets describes itself as “the betting arm of Goldrush”. Its banking page says it is owned by JSE-listed RECM and Calibre, through the Goldrush Gaming Group. That listed company has since been renamed Goldrush Holdings Limited, and its group website lists the G-bets brand under Gauteng, retail sports betting and online betting.

GBets also has a retail footprint. Its store locator lists about 30 branches, spread across Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, North West, Mpumalanga, the Free State, the Northern Cape and Lesotho.

History and track record

InterGame reported in May 2014 that BetTech Gaming had been chosen to power G-Bets, “an online sportsbook launching in South Africa” backed by Goldrush Gaming. In October 2024, SiGMA News and European Gaming reported a content partnership between GBets and Booming Games, and SiGMA named Dwain Powell as managing director of Gbets Online.

GBets has also been visible in local sport. News24 reported in August 2021 that it had become title sponsor of the Boland cricket side, which played as the “Gbets Rocks”. ClubCricket reported in May 2024 that the naming rights moved to the Goldrush brand for the 2024/25 season.

A search of news coverage turned up no regulator fine, licence suspension or payout scandal involving GBets.

What to do if you have a dispute with GBets

The GBets terms (clause 29) set out a three-step complaints process. Start with the customer service team by phone, email or live chat, and keep your bet slips, transaction references and screenshots. If that does not resolve it, ask for the matter to be escalated to a Team Leader, and then to the Customer Service Manager.

The terms ask you to allow at least 72 working hours for GBets to respond. If you are still unhappy after that, you can take the complaint to the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board, which licenses GBets. The terms give the board’s number as 021 480 7400. Include your username, the dates and what you have already tried.

GBets sign-up and FICA verification

To open a GBets account you will need to give your full names, your South African ID number or passport number, a mobile number and, under the terms, information about your source of funds.

Verification matters more than usual at GBets, because the R50 free bet is credited once the account is verified rather than the moment you register. Clause 16 of the GBets terms lists what it accepts.

• A valid, unexpired South African ID document, Smart ID card or passport showing your name and photo
• For foreign nationals: a valid work permit, asylum seeker permit or refugee permit
• Proof of address, not older than 3 months (on request)
• A bank statement or proof of bank account, not older than 3 months (on request)
• Proof of source of funds, where asked

The terms say documents can be uploaded through the website or sent by email. The homepage links to a documents section inside your account settings.

GBets can ask for proof of address or bank documents “at any time”, so it is worth uploading them early rather than waiting until you request your first withdrawal. Clause 14.3 also says deposits of R10,000 or more may need proof that you made the deposit yourself. Because the terms send withdrawals by EFT to the bank account the deposit came from, in the account holder’s name, the bank details you register should be in your own name.

The simplest order is to register, upload your documents, and only then deposit. That way the free bet arrives sooner and your first withdrawal is less likely to be held up.

GBets sportsbook: sports, live betting and features

The GBets sportsbook is built around the sports South Africans bet on most. The sports pages name football, rugby, cricket, golf, tennis and basketball, and the homepage links to Formula 1.

Sports and leagues

Most of GBets’ sports promotions are built around soccer. Tennis has its own 7 Leg Saver multi promotion, basketball has an NBA refund offer, and golf bettors can enter a weekly draw for a four-ball at Goldrush Ruimsig. Live betting and cash out

GBets has a Live Sports section. In its own words you can “back a side after kick-off” and “take your winnings early with cash out”. The cash out terms allow both full and partial cash out, before the match and in play, on singles and multis. Cash out is not available on free bets or bonus money, it can be suspended, and the terms do not mention an automatic cash out option.

Cashing out also cancels several promotions, including the Multi Soccer Bonus boost and the 3-Goal Shield refund.

Bet Builder, Edit My Bet and boosts

GBets describes its Bet Builder as a way to “make multiple bets on various, non-related aspects of one match”. Bet Builder slips also count towards the 2 Up Early Payout. The free bet terms also mention an Edit My Bet tool, which cannot be used with free bets.

For better prices, GBets runs “Super Bet” boosted odds and multi-bet boosts. The homepage copy describes multi-bet boosts as “up to 30% extra for multiple legs”, while the separate Multi Soccer Bonus page advertises a boost of up to 600%. The two figures do not match, so read the promotion page for the slip you are actually building.

What GBets does not offer

GBets does not list horse racing on its sports pages. There is also no live streaming; the live page itself says “you won’t even need live streaming to make winning bets”.

GBets maximum payout limits

GBets caps how much it will pay out and publishes its limits in the general terms. For sport the maximum payout is R2 million. Lucky Numbers has a higher cap of R5 million per customer, per event, per day.

The terms are not perfectly tidy here. Clause 13.8 writes the Lucky Numbers limit as “R5 000 000.00 (One million Rand)”, so the figure and the words disagree. The separate payout limits table and the Lucky Numbers clause both say R5 million. If you are playing for very large Lucky Numbers returns, ask support to confirm the limit in writing first.

Worked example: you place a R20 soccer multi at combined odds of 150,000.00. The potential return would be R3 million, but GBets will pay a maximum of R2 million on sport, so R1 million of that potential win would never be paid. With big accumulators, keep your potential return below R2 million.

On tax, clause 20 of the terms says all taxes required by South African law are held by GBets and paid over on behalf of the customer.

GBets welcome bonus and promotions

The GBets welcome bonus is harder to read than most. For sports punters, the part that matters is the R50 free bet. The deposit matches shown on the promotion page are for slots only. For a quick summary of the current deal, see our GBets bonus page.

Compare GBets’ bonus with other bookmakers

R50 free bet and 50 free spins

New customers get a R50 free bet and 50 free spins on Gates of Olympus. The promotion page says the free bet is given “upon sign-up”, while the free bet terms say “upon verification”. In practice, rely on the terms: the free bet is credited once your account is verified.

• The R50 stake is not returned; you keep only the winnings
• Maximum winnings from the free bet are R500
• The free bet must be used within 5 days
• Cash out and Edit My Bet cannot be used on the free bet
• You must deposit at least R25 before any winnings can be withdrawn

Worked example: you place the R50 free bet on a team at 3.00. If it wins, the return is R150, but the R50 stake is removed, so R100 is added to your balance. To withdraw it you must first deposit R25 and bet that deposit once at 1.50 or higher.

Deposit matches: two different versions

GBets’ own pages describe the deposit side of the welcome offer in two different ways. The table below sets them out side by side.

The promotion page also says its bonuses must be used within 5 days. Because the two pages disagree, do not assume there is a sports deposit match. The promotion page, which is what new customers see, describes slot matches only, and GBets’ FAQ adds that the most you can withdraw from bonus money converted to real cash is R1,000. Before you deposit, open the bonus section in your account and confirm which version applies to you. Ongoing promotions for existing customers

• Weekly cashback: up to 10% back on sports and casino losses, twice a week. You need to have deposited at least R1,000 in the period and built up at least R100 in cashback. Thursday to Sunday losses are paid on Monday; Monday to Wednesday losses are paid on Thursday.
• 2 Up Early Payout: on pre-match Full-Time Result bets, if your team goes two goals up in regular time, the bet is paid as a winner. It applies to singles, multis (the leg is marked as won) and Bet Builder, but only to your first qualifying bet on each match.
• 600% Multi Soccer Bonus: pre-match soccer multis only, legs at 1.30 or higher count, and the boost rises to 600%. The page says “MIN 2 Legs” but also that the boost “starts from 3% (for three events)”, so plan on three legs. Singles, live bets and outrights are excluded, and the boost portion is capped at R600,000.
• 3-Goal Shield: pre-match single on the Match Winner market, minimum stake R50, cash bets only. If your team loses by three goals or more, the promotion tile now offers 50% of your stake back, up to R500, while the older terms say 100% back as cash within 12 hours. Check the current terms before you rely on it. One refund per match.
• 7 Leg Saver: tennis match-winner multis of 7 or more legs, minimum stake R10. If exactly one leg loses, the terms give 50% of your stake back, up to R500; the promotion tile says “get your stake back”, so rely on the 50% wording.
• Howzat Multi Leg: cricket pre-match multis of 3 or more legs, minimum total stake R200, for 100 free spins on Gates of Olympus. The terms say the final leg must lose, while the reward section refers to a “winning” multi, so confirm with support.
• NBA promo: single pre-match basketball match-winner bet; if your team loses by exactly one point, you get 100% of the stake back as cash, up to R1,000, within 24 hours.
• Goldrush Ruimsig golf draw: bet R500 or more of real money on golf in a week to enter a weekly draw for a four-ball at Ruimsig.

GBets deposits and withdrawals

GBets’ banking page says you can fund your account with “1Voucher, Celbux, Ozow, Mastercard, Visa, Samsung Pay, Apple Pay or an OTT Voucher”. The FAQ adds EFT and confirms that card deposits are credited immediately. GBets does not accept cheques or cash deposits.

On the GBets minimum deposit: the general terms do not set one. The only figure GBets publishes is R25, which is the deposit needed before welcome offer winnings can be withdrawn. Where the terms and banking page differ, rely on the terms and check the options on the withdrawal screen. The FAQ says each request is “reviewed by our auditors and paid to you within 24 hours”. The terms set no general cap on withdrawals, but money that came from a bonus and converted to real cash can only be withdrawn up to R1,000.

The deposit turnover rule

Clause 14.1 says your deposit “must be turned over at least once before withdrawal”, at minimum odds of 1.50. In rands: if you deposit R300, you need to place at least R300 of bets at odds of 1.50 or higher before you can withdraw. Only deposit what you intend to play with.

Which withdrawal method should you use?

• Use EFT to the bank account in your own name that funded your deposit; it is the route clause 17.2 describes. Our EFT betting sites page explains bank transfers in more detail.
• If you deposit with Ozow, the money comes from your bank account, which makes the return trip simpler. Our Ozow betting sites guide explains how it works.
• If you deposit with vouchers or cards, register your bank account and FICA documents before you need to withdraw.

How to withdraw from GBets, step by step

1. Make sure your account is verified: ID uploaded, plus proof of address and bank details if requested.
2. Check that each deposit has been bet once at 1.50 or higher, then open the withdrawal section.
3. Choose your bank account (in your name, the one you deposited from) and enter an amount of at least R50.
4. Submit the request. GBets says its team reviews it and pays within 24 hours of confirming the funds.
5. If the money has not arrived, contact support with your request details.

Fees to know about

• The terms do not list a standard withdrawal fee.
• Clause 15.7 says GBets “may impose a deposit fee”, to be held and applied as security.
• Chargebacks and payment reversals can be recovered from you (clause 14.5).
• Dormant accounts: after 12 months with no activity, GBets reserves the right to reset the balance to zero without further notice (clause 18.2). Withdraw your balance before you stop using the account.

GBets Lucky Numbers, Betgames and casino games

GBets Lucky Numbers is a strong secondary product. It covers UK49s Teatime and international draws, has its own terms page, and carries a maximum payout of R5 million per customer, per event, per day. That is higher than the R2 million sport cap, although the wording conflict in clause 13.8 is worth remembering on very large stakes.

Betgames also appears in the payout limits table, with a R2 million cap. Outside sport and numbers, GBets has a slots hub, live games, crash games including Aviator, and virtual sports.

This review focuses on sports betting, so we do not cover the casino in depth.

GBets app and mobile site

The GBets app is available on Apple’s App Store as “Gbets – Sports Betting”, listed under Goldrush Group (Pty) Ltd. On testing, the listing showed version 1.5, last updated in August 2023, with a rating of 3.1 from 31 ratings. It is a small download (7.2 MB) and needs iOS 13 or later. User reviews on the listing mention crashes and login errors.

An app that has gone more than three years without an update is a warning sign. Features added to the website since then may not appear in the app, and older apps can behave badly on newer iPhones. If the app gives you trouble, use the mobile website instead.

GBets has no listing on Google Play, so Android users can bet through the mobile site in their phone’s browser.

GBets customer care number and support

The main GBets customer care number is 010 634 3855, which the contact page says is available 24 hours every day. You can also email onlinesupport@gbets.co.za or use live chat through the yellow icon at the bottom left of the site, which GBets also says runs 24 hours every day.

Several other numbers appear across GBets’ pages. The contact page’s search description lists 021 023 3634, and the complaints clause in the terms gives 077 098 4222. The 021 480 7400 number shown in the footer and FAQ belongs to the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board, not GBets. To avoid confusion, use 010 634 3855, email or live chat.

GBets does not list a customer service WhatsApp line. The WhatsApp number in the footer, 076 675 0710, belongs to the National Responsible Gambling Programme.

For a missing deposit or a delayed GBets withdrawal, email gives you a written record; include your username, the amount and the payment reference. If you need to escalate, the complaints route in the safety section above applies.

Responsible gambling at GBets

GBets shows the National Responsible Gambling Programme details in the footer of every page: the toll-free counselling line 0800 006 008, or WhatsApp “HELP” to 076 675 0710. The counselling line is toll-free.

GBets offers two main tools. A time-out lets you block your account from 1 day up to a period you choose, through the Profile icon or the Time-Out portal. Self-exclusion lasts a minimum of 6 months and can be requested by email or through the Self-Exclusion portal. You can only lift a self-exclusion after the 6 months have passed and you have shown proof of counselling through the NRGP.

GBets’ responsible gaming page and terms focus on time-out and self-exclusion. They do not describe deposit limits, loss limits or reality checks, so if you want those controls, look in your account settings or ask support whether they can be set.

Set a budget before you deposit and do not chase losses. If betting stops being fun, call 0800 006 008.

GBets reputation and complaints

GBets’ HelloPeter profile is weak. On testing, it had a TrustIndex of 2.4/10 and an average of 1.6 stars, with 20 reviews in the last 12 months. None of the latest reviews showed a reply from the company.

Three themes come up repeatedly in the complaints:

• Withdrawals left pending and deposits not credited
• Accounts restricted or withdrawals blocked after a customer wins
• Disputes over bonuses and cash out, such as bonus terms that customers felt were misleading and cash-out offers disappearing on winning bets, along with complaints about scripted support replies

Not every review is negative. In 2026 there were five-star reviews praising individual support agents. Still, with few recent reviews and no visible public responses, HelloPeter gives a poor picture of how GBets handles problems once they are raised.

The news record is neutral: recent coverage is about business deals such as the October 2024 Booming Games partnership, and a search found no regulator sanction or payout scandal.

Tips for betting at GBets

• Verify first, then deposit. The R50 free bet is credited after verification, and GBets can ask for FICA documents before paying out.
• Use the free bet on a sensible price. Odds must be above 1.50 and winnings are capped at R500, so there is no benefit in picking odds above 11.00 with a R50 free bet.
• Bet each deposit once before planning a withdrawal. The 1.50 turnover rule applies to every deposit, not just the first.
• Do not cash out promo bets by reflex. Cashing out forfeits the Multi Soccer Bonus boost and removes 3-Goal Shield protection.
• Build soccer multis with at least three legs at 1.30 or higher. That is the safest reading of the Multi Soccer Bonus terms.
• Do not leave money sitting in the account. After 12 months of inactivity GBets can reset your balance to zero.
