Our verdict on Lucky Fish: a racing-backed newcomer with a R1 entry point

Lucky Fish is the betting arm of Race Coast, the group that combines Gold Circle and Cape Racing under the Hollywoodbets umbrella, and it shows: horse racing sits right beside soccer at the top of the sports menu, and Race Coast says profits go back into the sport. It pairs that with a no-deposit sign-up deal (R50 plus bonus spins) and a R1 minimum deposit, lower than any minimum stated by the other bookmakers we have reviewed. The weak side is age. The brand launched in 2025 and has almost no public review record yet.

The R50 bonus is easy to clear. You bet it once at odds of 1.50 or more within 24 hours, where GBets gives a R50 free bet only once you are verified and Betway’s no-deposit free bet is R10. Sports punters should note that the only deposit match is for casino games.

Money in and out is flexible. Deposits start at R1 (YesPlay asks R20, Bettabets and Scorebet R50, Play.co.za R100), and there are four bank cash-send options for withdrawals. Lucky Fish says EFT withdrawals are processed within 24 hours; cash-send takes up to 72 hours and is capped at R3,000 a day.

On safety, the operating company holds licences from three boards (Eastern Cape, Mpumalanga and Western Cape), and its terms set a R1,000,000 daily win limit per customer. What is missing is a track record: there is no HelloPeter or Trustpilot profile, and the iOS app has just 22 ratings.

Who Lucky Fish suits

Racing fans who want SA and international meetings beside soccer, punters who deposit small amounts by voucher, Capitec Pay or card, and anyone who wants a no-deposit R50 with a single, low-odds rollover.

Who should look elsewhere

Sports bettors who want a deposit match on their first deposit, Android users who will only install from Google Play, and punters who prefer a brand with years of customer reviews behind it.

How we reviewed Lucky Fish

Lucky Fish was rated with the same nine-category model we apply to every bookmaker. We worked from the brand’s own pages and terms, the gambling boards’ licence records, app store listings, customer review platforms and news coverage. See how we rate bookmakers.

Is Lucky Fish legit? Licensing and safety

Yes. Lucky Fish is legal in South Africa and is run by Race Coast Western Cape (Pty) Ltd (registration 2011/008903/07), which trades as luckyfish.co.za. The footer lists three licences, where most rivals we have reviewed show one or two:

  • Eastern Cape Gambling Board: ECBM 012-01, issued June 2021
  • Mpumalanga Economic Regulator: 9-2-1-09838, issued January 2025
  • Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board: 10192104-002, issued January 2025

The Western Cape board also lists Race Coast Western Cape under its licensed bookmakers and as a totalisator operator. Race Coast’s commercial manager describes Lucky Fish as “the licensed fixed odds arm of Race Coast”, and the site shares Hollywoodbets features such as the Spina Zonke lobby and Holly Sixa. Race Coast announced the brand in August 2025, though it dates the official anniversary to 19 March.

One practical warning: the real site is luckyfish.co.za. The similar luckyfish.io address and its Trustpilot page belong to unrelated crypto sites.

What to do if you have a dispute with Lucky Fish

Start with support on 087 365 0651 or helpline@luckyfish.co.za, and keep your bet slip, transaction reference and any messages. If the answer does not settle it, escalate to a board that licenses the operator; the site footer has a Gambling Boards link. Under the Mpumalanga licence, that is the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator, quoting licence 9-2-1-09838.

Lucky Fish sign-up and FICA

Registration is short and checks your identity up front. Lucky Fish verifies your ID number with a verification tool as you sign up, and only asks for documents if that check fails. No promo code is needed; the welcome bonus is credited once your account is created.

  1. Enter your ID number, first name and surname exactly as they appear on your ID.
  2. Add your residential address and email, accept the terms and confirm you are 18 or older.
  3. Log in with your ID, cellphone number or email and the one-time PIN sent by SMS.

You can claim the welcome offer before your Lucky Fish FICA is complete, but you must be FICA approved before your first withdrawal. The offer terms list the accepted documents as:

  • A valid South African ID, or
  • A valid foreign passport

Documents go in through the “Upload FICA Now” menu item.

Lucky Fish sportsbook: soccer and racing side by side

Horse racing is where Lucky Fish differs most from GBets, YesPlay and Bettabets, none of which list it. Meetings from South Africa, the UK, Ireland, France, the USA and New Zealand are covered, and Race Coast says tote betting on local and international races is built in.

Lucky Fish soccer page with live, upcoming and virtual soccer tabs, popular leagues including the Premier League and Champions League, and a country list with South Africa first
The soccer page lists popular leagues, then countries with South Africa at the top.

Sports and leagues

Soccer leads the menu, with the South African PSL alongside the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, Ligue 1, Champions League and Europa League; our PSL betting guide covers the local league. The rest of the menu runs to rugby, cricket, tennis, golf, Formula 1, basketball, boxing, MMA, darts, snooker and a long list of smaller sports, plus esports such as LoL and Counter-Strike.

Live betting and cash out

The Live In-Play section listed 43 events on testing. The terms say Lucky Fish “may offer the option ‘Cash Out'” on bets placed online, so expect it on some markets rather than all.

Bet Builder and sports exotics

Bet Builder has its own menu item. Sports Exotics, familiar from Hollywoodbets, include soccer specials, score specials, Holly Sixa and a soccer pot.

What is not offered

Netball is not in the sports menu. There is no deposit match for sports bettors.

Sportsbook score10.0 / 10

The sportsbook is 18% of the overall score. How we rate bookmakers

Lucky Fish maximum payouts

The terms set a maximum win of R1,000,000 per customer per day, with listed exceptions that go up to R10,000,000. That is far above Bettabets’ R50,000 single-bet cap, though below Betfred’s R15 million daily cap.

Product Stated maximum
General daily win limit R1,000,000 per customer per day
Listed exceptions Up to R10,000,000
Lucky Numbers Up to R10 million
Bonus spins winnings R240 per player

Example: if your soccer multiples return R1,300,000 on the same day and none of them fall under an exception, Lucky Fish pays R1,000,000. Check clause 13.17 of the terms for the full table before staking big.

Lucky Fish bonuses and promotions

The Lucky Fish welcome bonus needs no deposit, and its R50 part carries one of the lightest rollovers around. The deposit match is a separate, casino-only deal.

Lucky Fish promotions page with casino, sports and LF Exclusives tabs and prize competitions including Goal Getters, the Lucky Fish Jackpot Race, Pragmatic Play Prize Drops and the Lucky Numbers Weekly Jackpot
Promotions lean towards competitions and prize draws rather than ongoing sports bonuses.

R50 bonus and bonus spins (no deposit)

The promotions page advertises “R50 Bonus and 50 Bonus Spins”, but the same offer’s terms say spins are “fixed at 25 spins per player”. Plan on 25 until Lucky Fish confirms otherwise. An older blog guide also gives higher minimum odds than the offer terms; rely on the terms.

  • The R50 must be used within 24 hours of account activation or it is forfeited.
  • Bet it once in full at 5/10 (1.50) or more on sports, horse racing or Lucky Numbers. A single R50 bet at 1.80 clears it.
  • Backing both sides of one event, such as Lucky Numbers High and Low, is not allowed.
  • Spins are on Habanero’s Hot Hot Fruit, Wild Trucks and Candy Tower at R0.30 each, expire 48 hours after claiming, need 10x wagering and pay at most R240.
  • One bonus per customer, household, account and IP address.

New to rollover rules? Our guide to wagering requirements explains them. For a similar no-deposit deal, compare the GBets welcome bonus.

100% first deposit match up to R1,000 (casino)

Deposit R100 or more for the first time and Lucky Fish matches it 100% up to R1,000 in a Casino Bonus Wallet. Wagering is 20 times the deposit within 7 days: deposit R500, get R500, and play through R10,000 on casino games in a week. It applies to first deposits from 28 August 2026, and accounts opened before 1 March 2026 are excluded.

Ongoing promotions

  • Goal Getters: every R10 soccer bet is an entry, with 84 winners across 19 draws and a top prize of R100,000 (21 August to 31 December 2026).
  • Stay in the Game: stake back (up to 10x) if the last leg of a soccer multiple loses.
  • Lucky Diski Boost: a bonus on soccer accumulators that grows with the number of legs.
  • Lucky Numbers Weekly Jackpot: R2 singles on eligible draws earn entries; one winner takes the cash pool each week.
  • Casino races: the Lucky Fish Jackpot Race, Pragmatic Play Prize Drops and a Playtech Lucky Rush Tournament.

The iOS Lucky Fish app (“Lucky Fish SA”) is rated 3.5 stars from 22 ratings and needs iOS 15.1 or later. Android users download an APK of just under 34MB from the Lucky Fish site (Android 5.0 or higher) or use Huawei AppGallery, as there is no Google Play listing, the same gap GBets has. The site also works in a mobile browser.
