- An independent review site for South African sports bettors; we are not a bookmaker and do not take bets.
- Every bookmaker is scored on the same questions across nine weighted categories.
- We earn affiliate commission, but commission never changes a score.
- Every review shows which South African gambling board licenses the bookmaker.
Who we are
Top Betting Sites ZA is an independent review and comparison site for people in South Africa who bet on sport. The site is operated by Inkshed Writers Ltd, [company registration number], [registered address]. We are not a bookmaker, we do not accept bets and we do not hold your money. Our job is to help you choose where to bet and understand what you are signing up for.
What we do
We review South African bookmakers, compare their offers and payment methods, and write plain guides on betting basics. Start with our bookmaker reviews, compare current deals on the bonuses page, check which sites support your bank or wallet on the payment methods page, or learn the basics in our betting guides.
How we review bookmakers
Every bookmaker answers the same set of questions, grouped into nine categories. Each carries a fixed weight:
- Sports betting: 18%
- Payments: 16%
- Safety and licensing: 12%
- Bonuses, usability, support and reputation: 10% each
- Registration and FICA: 8%
- Responsible gambling: 6%
We work from primary sources only: each bookmaker’s own website and terms and conditions, the provincial gambling boards and other official bodies. We never use other review or affiliate sites as sources. Our reviews are based on what we read on those sites and in those terms; we do not claim to have deposited, withdrawn or contacted support ourselves. The full scoring method is on our how we rate page.
Editorial independence and how we make money
This site is free to use. We earn money through affiliate links: when you click a link to a bookmaker and open an account, that bookmaker may pay us a commission. It costs you nothing extra.
Commission never changes a score. A bookmaker that pays us well but publishes slow withdrawal times or harsh bonus terms will still score low on payments or bonuses, and we will say so in the review.
How we treat licensing
Every review names the board that licenses the bookmaker and gives the licence number, so you can check it yourself. A South African provincial licence matters: if something goes wrong, you can complain to the board that issued it. Without one, that local protection is gone, so each review says clearly whether the bookmaker holds a South African licence.
Our responsible gambling commitment
Betting is entertainment, not a way to make money or pay off debt. Our site is for adults aged 18 and over. Every review scores the tools a bookmaker offers to keep betting under control, such as deposit limits and self-exclusion.
If betting is costing you more than you can afford, or you find yourself chasing losses, set limits with your bookmaker or take a break. Free, confidential help is available 24 hours a day from the National Responsible Gambling Programme on 0800 006 008, or by WhatsApp or SMS on 076 675 0710. Our responsible gambling page has more tools and support.

Frequently asked questions
Is Top Betting Sites ZA a bookmaker?
No. We are a review and comparison site. We do not take bets, hold accounts or process deposits and withdrawals.
Do bookmakers pay for a higher ranking?
No. We may earn affiliate commission when you sign up through our links, but every bookmaker is scored on the same weighted categories and commission never changes a score.
Do you check whether a bookmaker is licensed?
Yes. Every review states which South African gambling board licenses the bookmaker and its licence number. A provincial licence gives you a local regulator to complain to if a withdrawal is refused or an account is closed.
