Our verdict on FirstBet
FirstBet is a Western Cape shop bookmaker with an online site attached, not a new start-up: its operator, Banzostar (Pty) Ltd, has held a Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board licence since June 2017 and runs a dozen retail branches. Online, it stands out for very low entry amounts (R5 voucher and R10 card deposits), a welcome offer worth up to R10,000 that you earn before you receive it, and an unusually specific payout claim. The weak spot is how little public feedback exists so far.
The 100% match up to R10,000 is a higher ceiling than most local sign-up offers, but it only arrives after you wager the deposit itself 5x at odds of 1.90 or more and then claim it from support. The sports version is one single bonus bet, capped at the lower of 5x the bonus and R30,000.
FirstBet says 76% of withdrawals were approved in under 5 minutes in September 2026, a figure few bookmakers publish. The catch for bigger winners: bank Instant Money options start at R250 and stop at R5,000 a day and R25,000 a month.
The product mix is broad for a smaller brand, horse racing included. With two HelloPeter reviews in the last year and four App Store ratings, though, there is little evidence yet of how FirstBet handles problems.
Small-stakes punters using vouchers or Capitec Pay, Western Cape bettors who know the shops, and anyone wanting horse racing and Lucky Numbers in one account. The bonus suits steady bettors who would wager R5,000 on a R1,000 deposit anyway.
Punters who want a bonus credited upfront, round-the-clock help or a long public track record. If that is you, a larger operator such as Betway, covered in our full review, is the safer starting point.

How we reviewed FirstBet
We rate every bookmaker with the same nine-category model. For this FirstBet review we used the bookmaker’s own pages, the gambling boards’ licence records, app store listings, customer reviews and news. See how we rate bookmakers.
Is FirstBet legit? Licensing and safety
Yes. FirstBet’s footer states that Banzostar (Pty) Ltd (registration 2016/131538/07), trading as FirstBet, is licensed by the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board under licence 10185107, first issued on 30 June 2017. Banzostar also appears on the board’s bookmaker list.
A second licence, Eastern Cape Gambling Board ECBM 058, was first issued on 27 March 2026, and the administration office is in Humerail, Gqeberha. The online brand is young, but the licence behind it is nearly a decade old.
FirstBet lists ten Western Cape branches, including Atlantis, Claremont and Table View, and two in Gauteng (Turffontein and Pretoria Central). The homepage calls the business “100% South African owned”.
What to do if you have a dispute with FirstBet
FirstBet’s terms send complaints and disputes by email to support@firstbet.co.za; include your username, the bet or transaction reference and what you want fixed. If that does not settle it, the contact page lists details for the Western Cape and Eastern Cape boards so you can escalate. Keep screenshots of bet slips and terms.

FirstBet sign-up and FICA
FirstBet FICA checks happen before an online account is created. Sign-up needs your ID or passport number, mobile number, email, residential address and source of funds, and the FAQ says verification takes under 5 minutes.
FirstBet may ask for these documents at any time and may suspend accounts that do not meet FICA rules:
- South African ID book or smart ID card, or a passport
- Proof of banking
- Proof of residential address
- A driver’s licence, accepted only in limited cases
Emailed ID copies must be certified and current, and cash transactions above R49,999.99 are reported to the Financial Intelligence Centre.
FirstBet sportsbook: sport, horses and live betting
FirstBet covers the mainstream South African sports and adds horse racing, which several local rivals leave out. Its app listing names soccer, rugby, cricket, golf, tennis and Formula 1.

Sports and leagues
Leagues named include the PSL, EPL, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A and Champions League, and betting rules cover basketball, ice hockey, handball, MMA, darts, table tennis, snooker and more. Horse racing has meetings, next races and results pages. PSL betting fans can read our guide to betting on the Premier Soccer League before backing local sides here.
Live betting and cash out
FirstBet offers prematch and live betting, with live scores for soccer, cricket, rugby, tennis and basketball according to the app listing. Early Cashout is available.
Features
The sportsbook leads with 1UP, 2UP and 3UP early payouts, which settle your bet early when your team goes ahead by a set margin, a multibet bonus of up to 150% and price boosts. Win boosts, special odds and boosted bet builder prices sit alongside, and the One Leg Out offer is on the promotions page.
What is not offered
FirstBet does not advertise a bet builder, live streaming or esports betting.
FirstBet maximum payouts
FirstBet’s limit is generous for a smaller bookmaker: R500,000 per customer per day across sports, Lucky Numbers and horse racing combined. It is a daily total, not a per-bet figure.
| Product | Maximum payout |
|---|---|
| Sports, Lucky Numbers and horse racing | R500,000 per customer per day |
| Evolution and Ezugi live casino | Set by each game’s rules |
| Other casino providers (Pragmatic Play, Spribe Aviator, EGT, NetEnt and more) | Set by each game’s rules, capped at R2,000,000 |
| Welcome bonus bet | Lower of 5x the bonus bet and R30,000 |
| Welcome bonus spins | R3,000 per bonus spin |
Worked example: you win R400,000 on a football multi in the afternoon and R200,000 on a horse that evening. Together that is R600,000, but FirstBet pays a maximum of R500,000 for the day. FirstBet may also limit the net payout on any bet.
FirstBet welcome bonus and promotions
The FirstBet welcome bonus is unusual in structure: you wager your own deposit first, then contact support to claim the match. There is no promo code and no free sign-up credit.

100% First Deposit Match up to R10,000
Deposit at least R50 and choose one of two options. You have 30 days to meet the wagering, then claim via live chat or support@firstbet.co.za (subject “100% First Deposit Match”). FirstBet allocates it within 48 hours, and you must use it within 3 days. Withdrawing before allocation forfeits it.
Option 1, bonus bet (sports, horse racing or Lucky Numbers): wager the deposit at least 5x at odds of 1.90 or more, with each leg at 1.50 or more on multiples. Price boost, pending, cancelled and early cashed out bets do not count; if your deposit is used up and all bets are settled before you reach 5x, it drops to 3x. The bonus is one single bet at 1.90 or more, stake not returned.
In rands: deposit R1,000, bet R5,000 in total at 1.90 or more, then claim a R1,000 bonus bet. Placed at odds of 3.00, it returns R2,000 in winnings, under the R5,000 cap. At the top R10,000 bonus, the R30,000 limit applies instead. See how wagering requirements work.
Option 2, Bet Spins: wager the deposit at least 20x on Bet Spins games (10x if the deposit is used up first). You then get 100 bonus spins, topped up so their value equals your deposit, on games such as Sugar Rush, Gates of Olympus and Big Bass Bonanza. The App Store description still mentions 50 free spins; rely on the website’s offer terms, which say 100.
Ongoing FirstBet promotions
- Monday and Friday Cashback: paid in bonus bets and spins.
- Multi Bet Bonus Boost and One Leg Out: extras for accumulator punters.
- 2UP and Early Cashout: early settlement options on sport.
- Odds Boosts: alongside the win boosts and price boosts in the sportsbook.
- Birthday Bonus Spins: bonus spins on your birthday.
- Aviator daily tournaments: minimum bet R2.
- Casino network promotions: EGT October Heat (R3,000,000), SkyPilot, Wheel Drops and Tournaments, and a Pragmatic Play launch promotion.

FirstBet deposits and withdrawals
The FirstBet minimum deposit of R5 to R10 is lower than at most rivals, and the brand backs its speed claim with a number: 76% of withdrawals approved in under 5 minutes in September 2026. Most methods estimate about 30 minutes; larger, manually reviewed and late-night requests take longer.
| Deposit method | Minimum |
|---|---|
| Vouchers (1Voucher, OTT, Kazang, BluVoucher) | R5 |
| Instant EFT | R10 |
| Capitec Pay | R10 |
| Visa and Mastercard | R10 |

| Ozow EFT | R50 | Paid to your bank account |
| FNB eWallet, Standard Bank Instant Money, Nedbank Cardless, ABSA CashSend | R250 | R5,000 per day, R25,000 per month |
Which withdrawal method should you use?
- Small wins: 1Voucher, from R10.
- Larger wins to your bank: Ozow EFT, from R50, avoids the R5,000 daily cap on cash-send options. See our page on Ozow betting sites.
- Bank Instant Money options: FNB eWallet, Standard Bank Instant Money, Nedbank Cardless or ABSA CashSend, for R250 to R5,000 a day.
How to withdraw from FirstBet, step by step
- Make sure your account is FICA verified.
- Log in and open the cashier.
- Choose your withdrawal method and check its minimum.
- Enter the amount and confirm the request.
- Allow about 30 minutes for most methods, longer for large or late-night requests.
Fees to know about
- FirstBet does not list withdrawal fees on its payment information; confirm in the cashier before you request.
- Your bank or voucher provider may charge its own fees. See our payment methods guide.
FirstBet Lucky Numbers, Betgames and casino
FirstBet Lucky Numbers sits under a Numbers tab, with UK49s among the draws. Betgames and virtual sports have their own menu entries.
Aviator, Bet Spins and Bet Vegas also sit in the menu, alongside roulette, wheel games and live casino. This review focuses on betting, so we do not cover the casino in depth.
FirstBet app and mobile site
FirstBet offers apps for iPhone (App Store), Android and Huawei (AppGallery). The iPhone app, “FirstBet SA”, is sold by Banzostar (Pty) Ltd, is free, takes 28.8 MB, needs iOS 13.0 or later and has a 5.0 rating from just 4 ratings.
FirstBet also has its own app page on the website, and the site is set up to work in a phone browser. No data-free version is advertised.
Usability and the app are 10% of the overall score. How we rate bookmakers
FirstBet customer care number and support
Support hours are long but not round the clock. Live chat, email (support@firstbet.co.za) and WhatsApp on +27 68 323 3139 run from 8:00 to 23:00 every day. The FirstBet customer care number, landline 021 300 6856, is answered from 8:00 to 17:00 on weekdays.
That beats bookmakers that close in the early evening but falls short of 24/7 operators. Use email for anything you may need on record, such as a bonus claim.
Responsible gambling at FirstBet
FirstBet’s FAQ says deposit limits and self-exclusion are available in your account, and the App Store listing adds that you can take a break for a period you choose.
If gambling stops being fun, call the National Responsible Gambling Programme on 0800 006 008 or WhatsApp HELP to 076 675 0710. Consider a deposit limit before chasing the welcome offer’s wagering.

FirstBet reputation and complaints
HelloPeter shows 3 out of 5 from just 2 reviews in the last 12 months, too few for a TrustIndex, and says the business does not respond to reviews. There is no Trustpilot page.
The two reviews disagree. A 1-star review from June 2026 complained about bot-only support, “hidden” terms, document demands and limited withdrawal hours. A 5-star review from May 2026 praised quick verification and smooth cashouts but called a minimum cashout of 300 high; FirstBet now lists minimums from R10 to R250.
FirstBet has had no notable news coverage, and with so few reviews there is no pattern yet.
Tips for betting at FirstBet
- Decide on the bonus before you deposit. Only bets at 1.90 or more count, and early cashed out bets do not, so plan your first R50 or more around that.
- Claim in writing. Email support@firstbet.co.za with the subject “100% First Deposit Match” and keep the reply.
- Pick your withdrawal method by size. Use 1Voucher for small amounts and Ozow EFT for anything above the R5,000 daily cash-send cap.
- Keep a certified ID copy ready. FirstBet can ask for documents at any time.
