Our verdict on Playbet
Playbet is a Mpumalanga-licensed bookmaker whose welcome offer stands out on paper: 200 spins on registration, then a 100% first deposit match up to R20,000 split between casino and sports wallets. It also carries horse and greyhound racing, 15% weekly cashback on three product groups and a R3 million daily win limit. The weak spots are the missing wagering figure on the deposit match and a complaints record that leans heavily negative.
The match beats YesPlay’s R3,000 and Bettabets’ R5,000 on a single deposit. The catch is that Playbet says bonuses are “subject to wagering requirements” without giving the multiple or minimum odds, so you cannot work out the bonus’s real value in advance.
Racing is a genuine plus: GBets and YesPlay have none, while Playbet adds South African meetings and real greyhound racing to football, rugby and cricket.
The complaints record is the main reason for caution. On HelloPeter, 56.5% of Playbet’s 46 reviews are one star, recent reviewers describe withdrawals disabled or held up by verification, and the business does not reply. Bettabets and Scorebet share that silent pattern, but it is still a real weakness.
Playbet is a different brand from Play.co.za and Playabets.
Punters who bet on racing as well as football, want a large first deposit match and will ask support for the wagering terms in writing, or like weekly cashback. Voucher users get plenty of choice, some from R5.
Anyone who wants fully published bonus terms, iPhone users who want an app, and punters who value a responsive complaints team. If well-reviewed payouts matter most, compare the Betway review before signing up.

How we reviewed Playbet
We rate every bookmaker with the same nine-category model, drawing on the bookmaker’s own pages and terms, gambling board licence records, app store listings, customer reviews and news coverage. See how we rate bookmakers.
Is Playbet legit? Licensing and safety
Yes. Playbet’s footer and terms name the operator as Playbet Mpumalanga (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2016/298688/07, licensed by the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator under licence number 9-2-1-00090.
Betfred and Bettabets hold Mpumalanga licences too, so this is ordinary. The company was registered in 2016, its terms date from 2019, and its head office is at 3 Willow Cres, St Andrews, Johannesburg. Playbet also has physical outlets that accept cash deposits.
The platform runs on Aardvark software, and a February 2022 content deal with Pragmatic Play added slots, live casino and virtual sports. We found no fines, sanctions or data breaches linked to the brand. Withdrawals go only to an account in your own name, a standard protection.
What to do if you have a dispute with Playbet
Section 24 of the terms sets a fixed route. Send a written complaint within 10 working days to Shop 4, 12 Theo Kleynhans Street, White River, Mbombela; Playbet then has 10 working days to respond. If you are still unhappy, refer it to the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator, whose decision is binding. Keep screenshots of slips, balances and chats, because the 10-day window is short.
Licence and safety is 12% of the overall score. How we rate bookmakers
Playbet sign-up and FICA
You add banking details during registration and confirm your cellphone number with an SMS code. Playbet FICA is standard: upload documents under User Info, “Verification (Action Required)”, Upload Files, and support reviews them.
- Identity: ID book, Smart ID card, South African passport or South African driver’s licence
- Foreign nationals: passport, or refugee or asylum documents
- Proof of address issued within the last 3 months: utility bill, bank statement, lease, bond statement, tax document, municipal account or a letter from a traditional authority
- Proof of bank account and source of funds, if requested
You must be fully verified and have made a real money deposit before withdrawing bonus winnings, so upload early.
Playbet sportsbook: racing included
Playbet’s main menu lists Horse Racing and Greyhounds alongside Sports, a clear difference from rivals without racing. Football opens first, with the Premier League, Serie A, La Liga and Ligue 1 as top leagues and PSL fixtures such as the MTN 8 on the homepage.

Sports and leagues
More than 20 sports are listed, from football, rugby, cricket and tennis to darts, snooker, MotoGP, golf and esports such as Counter Strike. For local football, see our PSL betting guide. Racing covers South African meetings with Trifecta and Fixed Place bets.
Live betting and cash out
In-play betting is offered with its own lower win limits. Early Cashout is a current promotion, shown at the bottom of eligible bets in My Bets, though two HelloPeter reviewers said it was not available to them. Check your slip before relying on it.
Bet builder, boosts and slip tools
Bet Builder, Price Boosts and a Multi Leg Bonus (“win up to 150%”) are live promotions, alongside system bets, Book a Bet and Share a Bet.
Playbet maximum payouts
Playbet’s daily overall win limit of R3,000,000 is generous, though below Betfred’s R15 million daily cap. Tighter limits apply to live bets and bonuses.
| Limit | Amount |
|---|---|
| Overall win limit, any 24 hours | R3,000,000 |
| Default for games not listed separately | R1,000,000 |
| Aviator, per round | R2,000,000 |
| In-play single | R30,000 |
| In-play multiple | R200,000 |
| Winnings from the 200 spins | R1,000 |
| Welcome match winnings | R10,000 to R50,000, by deposit size |
Worked example: you stake R5,000 on a live single at 8.00. The bet would return R40,000, but the in-play single cap is R30,000, so you would not be paid in full.
Playbet welcome bonus and promotions
The Playbet welcome bonus has one notable feature: the deposit match is split between separate casino and sports wallets. Playbet’s own help pages still describe an older offer (an R50 sign-up bonus and three deposit matches); the welcome page, which took effect in August 2026, is the current version, so rely on it and the full terms. Compare it on our betting bonuses page.

200 spins on registration
The spins land automatically on registration, on Pragmatic slots including Big Bass Bonanza 1000. To withdraw spin winnings (capped at R1,000), deposit at least R100 and roll it over once at odds of 1.60 or more.
100% first deposit match up to R20,000
The minimum first deposit is R50, and the withdrawal cap rises with its size:
| First deposit | Maximum withdrawal |
|---|---|
| R50 to R1,000 | R10,000 |
| R1,001 to R5,000 | R20,000 |
| R5,001 to R10,000 | R30,000 |
| R10,001 or more | R50,000 |
For example, a R2,000 deposit earns R2,000 in bonus funds across the two wallets, with a R20,000 maximum withdrawal. The page adds that the maximum withdrawal is “per wallet”, so confirm how it is split before depositing.
Playbet’s own wording does not line up. The headline says “up to R20,000 matched”, yet the table runs to R50,000, and the welcome page gives 7 days to use bonuses while the general terms default to 24 hours. Most importantly, no wagering multiple or minimum odds are given. Rivals publish theirs (YesPlay asks for 7x at 3.10, for example), so ask support for the wagering rule in writing before depositing. Our wagering requirements guide explains why it matters.
Ongoing promotions
Of 16 promotions, the 15% weekly cashback stands out; Mzansibet’s is 10%.
- Weekly cashback: 15% back on losses, run separately for crash games, slots, and sports and numbers.
- Multi Leg Bonus: a boost on multiples that Playbet sums up as “win up to 150%”.
- XUP Promo: “1, 2 or 3 goals up? A win for you!”
- Casino tournaments: Drops & Wins, Spinoleague, AGT Daily Spins, and EGT and SkyPilot network tournaments.

- Standard EFT is the fallback.
How to withdraw from Playbet, step by step

- Wager any voucher deposits in full and clear any bonus turnover.
- Choose EFT, Wallet Doc EFT or Ozow, enter at least R100 and confirm.
Fees to know about
- Playbet does not state any withdrawal fees in its help articles or terms.
- Winning horse racing bets carry a 6% betting tax, including multiples with a horse racing leg.

Playbet Lucky Numbers, Betgames and casino
Playbet Lucky Numbers sits in a “Numbers” section with lotteries, a search field and future bets, plus FAFI Jamaica Cashpot. Betgames titles include Lucky 7, Wheel of Fortune and War of Bets. Crash games include Aviator and SkyPilot, alongside virtual dog races and Lucky 20 keno. Slots and live casino sit under “Vegas Games” and “Vegas Tables”; we do not cover the casino in depth.

Playbet app and mobile site
The Playbet app for Android is a direct APK download from the site’s Help menu rather than a Google Play install. You choose a 32-bit file for older phones or a 64-bit file for newer ones, and must allow installs from unknown sources.
For iPhone, the help centre suggests bookmarking the site rather than installing an app. Skipping Google Play is not unusual: GBets has no Play Store app either.

Playbet customer care number and support
Call the Playbet customer care number on 010 745 7479. Live chat and email (support@playbet.co.za) are also listed, though opening hours are not. The help centre at help.playbet.co.za has about 60 articles, but some, including the welcome bonus pages, are out of date, so treat the main site and terms as the reference.
Responsible gambling at Playbet
Playbet lists deposit limits (per day or month), reality checks, time out and self-exclusion. Self-exclusion is requested through the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator or a form sent to compliance@playbet.co.za. For free help, call the National Responsible Gambling Programme on 0800 006 008 or WhatsApp 076 675 0710.

Playbet reputation and complaints
On HelloPeter, Playbet holds a TrustIndex of 2/10 from 46 reviews: 56.5% one star and 32.6% five star, the five-star share coming from older reviews. Only 10 arrived in the last 12 months, and “this business does not respond to reviews”. By contrast, Betfred replies to 87%.
Recent reviews, from December 2025 to September 2026, are all one star. Themes are withdrawals disabled or blocked during verification (one reviewer reports a R7,000 win held up), free spins not credited or worth little, and early cash out not available. Trustpilot has no reviews, and the only news is the 2022 Pragmatic Play deal.
Tips for betting at Playbet
- Get the wagering rule in writing. Ask support for the match multiple and minimum odds before your first deposit.
- Size your first deposit with the table in mind. R1,001 lifts the withdrawal ceiling from R10,000 to R20,000.
- FICA before you win. Verification problems are the top complaint, so upload documents on day one.
- Check limits before big live bets. In-play singles are capped at R30,000 in winnings.
Playbet questions
Is Playbet legit and legal in South Africa?
Yes. Playbet is operated by Playbet Mpumalanga (Pty) Ltd and licensed by the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator under licence number 9-2-1-00090, as shown in its footer and terms. Disputes that Playbet cannot settle go to that regulator, whose decision is binding. Its HelloPeter record is weak, though, with a TrustIndex of 2/10 and no replies to reviews.
Who owns Playbet?
Playbet’s footer and terms name the operating company as Playbet Mpumalanga (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2016/298688/07, with a head office at 3 Willow Cres, St Andrews, Johannesburg. The company was registered in 2016 and holds Mpumalanga licence 9-2-1-00090. The site runs on Aardvark software, and playbet.co.za forwards to the live site at playbet.net.
What is the Playbet welcome bonus?
New customers get 200 spins on registration on selected Pragmatic slots, then a 100% match on the first deposit up to R20,000, split between casino and sports wallets. Spin winnings are capped at R1,000, and match winnings at R10,000 to R50,000 depending on deposit size. The wagering multiple for the match is not stated, so ask support first.
What is the Playbet minimum deposit?
SnapScan and BluVoucher deposits start from R5. To qualify for the welcome match, your first deposit must be at least R50, and withdrawing winnings from the 200 spins requires a R100 deposit rolled over once at odds of 1.60 or more. Voucher deposits must be wagered in full before you can withdraw.
How long does a Playbet withdrawal take?
Playbet says Wallet Doc EFT withdrawals take up to 30 minutes. It gives no times for standard EFT or Ozow withdrawals. Playbet’s withdrawal guide sets a R100 minimum, and money goes only to a bank account in your own name. You must be fully FICA verified first, so upload documents early.
What documents does Playbet FICA need?
You need an ID book, Smart ID card, South African passport or driver’s licence (foreign nationals can use a passport or refugee or asylum papers). Add proof of address from the last 3 months, such as a utility bill, bank statement, lease or traditional authority letter. Playbet may also ask for proof of bank account and source of funds.
Is there a Playbet app?
Android users can download an APK from the site’s Help menu, in 32-bit or 64-bit versions, after allowing installs from unknown sources. For iPhone, the help centre suggests bookmarking the mobile site instead of installing an app. The site is built as a mobile web app, so it works in a phone browser.
What is the Playbet customer care number?
Call Playbet on 010 745 7479, the number on its contact page. You can also use live chat on the site or email support@playbet.co.za, and the help centre at help.playbet.co.za answers common questions. The contact page does not list opening hours. Formal complaints follow the written process in section 24 of the terms.
